This is my second paper-animation movie. These are reversible b&w paper structures, based on Hexstatic's "Pulse" (Ninjatune) played reverse, each object illustrating a sound. This a stop-motion movie, so I had to cut and fold approximatively 270 models I previously had drawn before filming each one of them : over 2500 pictures were taken, no cg work at all. Firstly a big shout out to Keith Loutit for inspiring the look of this project. I wrote the music last year, and then recently started taking some time-lapse video from the rooftop of my workplace. Editing the music with the images was actually an afterthought but it kind of worked out. Shot on a Panasonic HVX200, in 1080 using the interval recording mode. Rate of recording was 1 shot in every 4 or 8 fps. The soft focus look I added afterwards - it ain´t genuine tilt shift - maybe that makes me a fake or a poser or something:-) Hope you enjoy this. created by Paul Johannessen

I worked as an Animator/Compositor in a team with the directors Pete Candeland and Robert Valley. Jamie Hewlett designed it. The music is from Damon Albarn for the Opera "Monkey: Journey To The West". All the character animation was hand made by 5 animators, and colored on computer. The backgrounds where made on Photoshop and Painter by Kevin Dart and Lukasz Pazera. The aim was to recreate the feeling of a traditional animation like the old movies using the Multiplan technics and mixing some real footages with the animation. But a bit more sofisticated.

Thats the point where our movie begins... made on nikon d60, 15 nights of shooting in berlin, we used long time exposure and stop motion technique
