“sad hat l happy hat” is one of design interventions in the “benchspace walk workshop”, part of London architecture festival. We like London, this city-world full of differences, ethnic variety, colors, textures, sounds; within a block distance the environment can change totally. We are perpetually commuting and when we think about architecture, we think of vertical constructions, enclosing horizontal space. Naturally we have a tendency to look up when we are happy and down when we are sad. We want to bring emphasis on the ground and the sky, amplifying one’s mood. The “sad hat | happy hat” can be worn in two different ways, happy (looking up) or sad (looking down). The reflective surface inside multiplies the perception of either the sky or the ground. But what happens when you either look only up or down? You bump into stuff! Maybe you need someone to complement your perception: if you are sad you may need someone happy, if you are happy someone sad, to walk together safely. The object can be experienced in 2 main ways, outside-in and inside-out. The outside-in aspects: the appearance of the hats indicates obviously what mood you are in. This experience critiques our excess of self-awareness in public, how much we care about how others are looking at us. The inside-out aspect provides a thrilling sensorial experience, something different and playful, we might not care how people will look at us, in our own visual and acoustic distorted world. The “sad hat | happy hat” is a simple playful perception limb that directs and amplifies ones perception and mood, allowing to re-consider how one feels about the city while creating an extreme social relation between the mask user and the others, encouraging the necessary complementary pair relation With Dot Nitipak Samsen. Scattered House is an architectural experiment founded on a truly contemporary notion of space, where issues of ubiquitous connectivity, family diasporas, design-by-occupant, and public control technology come together in an installation assembled from inexpensive electronic toys and gadgets.   We are inviting members of the public to visit the Hungarian Cultural Centre and contribute to elements of the "house" -- they can either bring toys and gadgets that will become part of the amalgamated whole or we will also have a selection of items that they can try hacking themselves. Once it had collected enough it biodegrades in the patch it formed. Quickly nature takes over and absorbs the organic robot. Urban diversity emanates from the people. There are always surprises on one’s first visit to a city. My first visit to Paris truly opened my eyes to the various types of people and how they live and interact with one another. This strength allows Paris to support an atmosphere that is rich with culture and personality. This way of life seemed to come naturally to the Parisians. As a complete tourist, I was amazed at how they spoke to me without any hesitation. It was natural for them to communicate in this manner. In Japan, it seldom happens that we approach foreigners by speaking Japanese. I noticed while on vacation in Paris, despite his or her differences in appearance, everyone around me spoke comfortably in French. What I call “The Difference of Appearances” can be seen in how a person wears their clothes. Of course, I knew Paris was a fashionable city, but my actual experience there well exceeded my initial opinion. I saw many different ways in how people wore their clothes. Each person had a way of showing their individuality through their attire. It was even more fascinating, the observation of costumes and how they are worn within groups of people. Paris is a peculiar place. The notion of people socializing together excited me even more upon seeing all of the different costumes mixing as well. Being in such a situation, I could not help but play around with fashion and the assortment of styles that were available to me in Paris. Though, at the same time, I felt out of place. Rather than clothing, the use of language seemed to be easier for the Parisian to exchange. Although, I enjoy wearing any costume without difficulty, I find that the peculiar costume to a certain group plays an important role as a criterion to distinguish “us” from “them.” I wanted to communicate without hesitation with the Parisians, just as they did, but in my own way. It is acceptable to exchange costumes with one another; this is how I wish to communicate. I try to leave the appearance of “myself” to “him” or “her.” This is interchangeable.
